Website History and Archives
History of this Site:
This site was first created in 1999 as a basic site featuring links, a FAQ and a place to put stories of my trips.
In 2001, it was upgraded to include the beginnings of what is now, the "Isle Royale INFO" book, a web board, a "Picture of the Week" and other items.
In 2006, I took a sabatical from adding to and maintaining the site and it was left basically dormant.
After the "Isle Royale Web Board" crashed and could not be restarted, it was moved to another site (Thanks Richard!) and is going as strong as ever.
All the while, between then and now, the book was being worked on and many trips to island were taken.
Finally in 2011, the site has been totally redesigned and "Isle Royale INFO - The Compresensive Guide to Isle Royale National Park" was released and this site is once again a living site.
I wish to thank everyone who has helped support this site through the years and encouraged me to continue it. If it wasn't for all of you, this would not be here right now!.
Picture of the Week Archives:
This site once did a picture of the week. This page contains links to all of the pictures that were selected as part of that. Picture of the Week is now done through the web board, however, this archive contains hundreds of pictures taken on and around the island. These pictures will give you an idea of the scenery, wildlife, trails, campsites, history and an overall view of the island.
All pictures are owned by the Photographers. If you wish to use them, please contact the owner for permission.
The pictures are in the form of "thumbnails". Click on the picture to see a larger version.
Trip Log & Trip Report Archives:
Trip Logs were kept for 2002 through 2005. These logs recorded who was going, when, where to and the dates they were going. Along with these logs, trip reports were submitted and either linked to or put on this site. Based on those 5 years of logs, these are the totals of the submissions:
Total logged Trips = 189
Total logged days = 1386
Average stay = 7.3 days
People coming from Grand Portage = 89 or 47%
People coming from Copper Harbor = 68 or 36%
People coming from Houghton = 24 or 13%
People coming by Seaplane = 4 or 2%
People coming by private boat = 4 or 2%
The individual year archives for both "Trip Logs" and "Trip Reports" are available at:
